F15-10/6: WORKSHOP: Maximizing Success With Data Testing: One Byte at a Time

Track/s: Automation, Strategy

We live in a world where data is king. Practically everything we do requires some type of data. And whether you are specifically testing data or you are testing products and applications that use data, it has become a necessity to understand the best way to ensure the quality of it.

Large corporations are protecting their data while at the same time they are craving for more. To them, data is the new oil. It is precious and priceless to them. Start-up organizations are giving data its due respect. To them, data is the new middle manager.

Evan an individual that believes she doesn’t have anything to do with technology would still want to protect her credit card details. She should like to store her favorite sites visited online and for her preferences to be remembered. She would like to be able to spot exactly what she is looking for within the huge sea of information available online, while ensuring that no one else be able to see her preferences. What does she really want? DATA availability and security. There is not enough space here to explain all the ways that we love and wish to protect our data.

There are ways to test your data and keep it available for your customers anytime they wish, without compromising on its integrity and validity. In this tutorial you shall learn the basic concepts of Big Data / Enterprise Data Warehouse / ETL Process (Extract, Transport, and Load) and Business Intelligence. We will discuss the importance of data and types of data issues that organizations face. We shall also learn the general test techniques (some like to call these ‘best practices’) to test data for its validity and keep it protected and available for use.

This tutorial appeals to all roles – whether you test data specifically, you’re in functional testing, automation, performance, or you’re a test manager. Everyone needs to understand the importance of data in today’s world and how we can keep it safe and be most efficient with it.

Why is data important?

  • Concepts of Big Data / EDW / ETL / BI.
  • Typical data issues.
  • General techniques on data testing.
  • How automation can help.
